Kazakhstan’s investment promotion site confirms that visa-free entry exists and sends readers to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the detail. The ministry publishes it in full: one table covering 195 countries, split by passport type, with a stay length for every one.
The table and where it lives
The document is titled “Visa regime of the Republic of Kazakhstan for foreign citizens.” It was published in November 2022 and its stated date of update is 21 August 2026. That is recent enough to plan against, but check your own row again before you travel.
The government page that points you here names the domain mfa.gov.kz, which no longer serves the content directly. Over plain HTTP it redirects to the ministry’s section of gov.kz. Over HTTPS it fails, because the certificate does not cover that hostname, so a browser that upgrades the address shows a security warning. Go to the gov.kz address instead.
A US ordinary passport gets 30 days
The row reads “United States: visa-free up to 30 days” for all three passport types. The figure circulates widely without a source. This one comes from the ministry, with a date.
The passport-type split
Every country gets three columns: “D, diplomatic passport”, “S, service/official passport” and “N, ordinary passport.” Usually the three agree. When they differ, the ordinary passport is usually the shortest, and it is the column almost every traveller is in.
- Japan: a diplomatic or service passport gets 90 days, an ordinary passport 30.
- India: 30 days on diplomatic and service passports, 14 days on an ordinary one.
A figure quoted without a passport type may come from the wrong column.
What the table says for Asian passports
Most Asian entries sit at 30 days. Two do not.

Plan around the 14-day entries. A fortnight is enough for Almaty and Charyn Canyon. It is thin if you want to cross the country or add Astana at a relaxed pace. What is actually run as a day trip out of Almaty is a quick way to test whether fourteen days holds your plan.
Check your own row before you commit to dates
The table is long and changes country by country. Austria’s diplomatic entry carries an explicit “from 1st of May, 2026” note. Open the source, find your nationality, read across to the column for the passport you hold, and plan around that number. Once it is settled, tours in Kazakhstan are there to browse.
Corrections
18 September 2026. This page used to be titled “Kazakhstan’s Visa-Free Entry Page, and What It Doesn’t Say”. It carried a section headed “What we’re not going to tell you” that declined to print a day count, a country list or anything about US passports. The cited page, Kazakh Invest’s visa-free entry page, says nothing beyond its heading, and a source that states no figure cannot be quoted for one.
The mistake was stopping there. That page names the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as the place to look, the ministry publishes the full table, and nobody followed the pointer. The page is now rewritten around the table, with the source changed to the ministry document.
