Maldives Immigration needs no application before you land: “Tourist visa is granted on arrival to the Maldives. Foreigners traveling to Maldives as tourists do not require pre-approval for the visa.” It does set conditions, listed below.
The declaration to file before you fly
You still file a declaration. It “can be completed up to 96 hours (4 days) before your arrival in Maldives,” through the IMUGA Traveller Declaration. The site does not say what IMUGA stands for, so we will not guess.
The passport rule
Your passport needs “a Machine Readable Zone (MRZ) with at least 1 month validity.” The page adds: “Passengers with extended validity in their passports are not allowed to enter.”
It does not say what “extended validity” means in practice or how immigration identifies it. If your country issues passport extensions rather than new books, resolve that before you fly.
What you need to show
Immigration lists “a complete travel itinerary, including confirmed return journey tickets, prepaid confirmed booking at a registered facility, and sufficient funds to cover the stay in the Maldives, or a pre-approved sponsorship visa from Maldives Immigration.” The sponsorship visa replaces the whole bundle.
Two smaller rules:
- “Children/minors must have their own passport to enter the Maldives”. A child cannot travel on a parent’s passport.
- Travellers arriving from a yellow-fever-risk country need “a Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate,” and children under one year of age are exempt.
Israeli passports
“Effective from 15th April 2025, entry to the Maldives will not be granted on Israeli passports.”
Meeting every requirement does not guarantee entry
“A complete travel itinerary does not guarantee entry to Maldives. Entry will be granted at the port of entry after determination of admissibility by Immigration officers, as per Section 7 and 8 of The Maldives Immigration Act 2007.”
Visa duration and fee
Immigration’s page gives neither the number of days a Maldives tourist visa lasts nor a fee. Confirm both with Immigration before you fly, and do not rely on a figure from elsewhere.
