Marriott Bonvoy and Betterwood: the Dual Member Choice in Asia

One tick at check-in decides whether the night counts toward lifetime status

If you hold Marriott Bonvoy status and stay at a Delonix Group hotel in Asia, Marriott’s terms call you a Dual Member. For each such stay you choose which membership is primary, and that choice decides whether the night counts toward lifetime status.

What Betterwood is

Betterwood is a membership system launched by Delonix Group, offering benefits at selected participating properties in Asia. It runs on its own and alongside Bonvoy.

Betterwood has no earn-and-redeem points benefits at all. If you belong to both, you can only earn and redeem Points or Miles with Bonvoy.

Who makes the choice

For every stay at a Delonix Group property, a Delonix Stay in the terms, a Dual Member designates which membership is primary and which is secondary.

  • Book through a Marriott channel, and Bonvoy is designated your primary program during booking.
  • Walk in, and you choose your primary program at check-in.

With Bonvoy as primary

Designate the Loyalty Program as primary and the stay gets:

  • Points or Miles
  • Member benefits according to your tier
  • Betterwood Program Time, as if the reservation had been made through a Delonix channel
  • the core benefits given to all basic Betterwood members at that hotel

You keep your Bonvoy earning and still accrue on the Betterwood side.

With Bonvoy as secondary

The stay still earns Elite Night Credit, provided it was not booked through a third-party channel. The rest of the clause limits that credit:

  • it will not count toward your Lifetime Elite Status
  • it may not apply toward eligibility for Platinum Elite or higher, or toward Annual Choice Benefits, at Marriott’s discretion
  • you get no other Loyalty Program benefits, explicitly including no earning of Points or Miles

The night shows on your account but sits outside the lifetime ladder and the Choice Benefit threshold.

When it matters

For a single holiday stay it makes little difference. If you are chasing a tier or a lifetime number, a run of Delonix nights taken as secondary shows on your statement without moving you toward either.

A booking through a Marriott channel is designated Bonvoy-primary at the point of booking, so the choice is made for you and the stay earns on both sides.

A third-party booking has no upside here. It does not even keep the Elite Night Credit that the secondary designation would otherwise give you.
