Four Firefly destinations are flown from both Kuala Lumpur airports, so the airport is part of the booking. The fare brand matters less: Firefly’s own pages give every passenger the same checked bag.
Read on 1 October 2026 from Firefly’s route page, fee table, add-ons page and help centre. Why Firefly runs two Kuala Lumpur airports is in our piece on the Subang and KLIA split.
Where Firefly flies, by base
Firefly’s route page prints a map and no route list. The clearest published list is the Elite Points zone table on Firefly’s Enrich page, dated June 2026, which names every city pair it awards points on. Read with the route map, the network is:
| From | To |
|---|---|
| Subang (SZB), turboprops | Alor Setar, Johor Bahru, Kota Bharu, Kuala Terengganu, Langkawi, Penang, Singapore Seletar |
| Penang (PEN) | Banda Aceh, Kota Bharu, Langkawi, Phuket, Subang |
| KLIA (KUL), Boeing 737-800 jets | Johor Bahru, Kota Bharu, Krabi, Kuala Terengganu, Penang, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, Tawau, Cebu |
The split by aircraft is Firefly’s own: its Krabi release describes “jet operations from KLIA, together with its turboprop network from Subang”. The map’s legend marks Boeing 738 routes and ATR 72-500 routes separately. Krabi is the newest jet route, daily from KLIA since 17 November 2025.
The overlap matters most. Johor Bahru, Kota Bharu, Kuala Terengganu and Penang are flown from Subang and from KLIA. For those four you choose the airport as well as the flight. The booking form lists Subang and Kuala Lumpur as separate origins, and the three-letter code, SZB or KUL, is the only field that tells them apart.
Two limits on the list:
- A points table is not a timetable. It says nothing about how often a route runs.
- Firefly’s own figures for its network disagree. The route page says it flies to “16 cities in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and Philippines”. A card on the fees page says “18 vibrant cities across Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand”, leaving out the Philippines, where Cebu is. The zone table and the map each show 15, counting Kuala Lumpur once.
Not every origin on the form is a Firefly flight
The origin list on Firefly’s booking form runs from Bintulu and Mulu to London Heathrow, Jeddah and Sydney, none of which are on Firefly’s own map. Firefly’s fee table keeps a separate column for flights “Operated Domestic & International by Malaysia Airlines (MAB)”, where change and cancellation follow Malaysia Airlines’ codeshare terms. Firefly’s extras, such as the FlySmarter Bundle and Neighbour-Free Seat, are “not available on codeshare flights”.
Firefly’s Enrich page identifies Firefly-marketed flights operated by Malaysia Airlines as the FY4000 and FY7000 series. A flight number in those ranges is not a Firefly aircraft, and the allowances below may not apply to it.
KLIA to Changi is off until 24 October
Firefly’s advisory of 4 May 2026 suspends its KLIA to Singapore Changi jets, FY3680, FY3681 and FY3683, from 6 May to 24 October 2026. The route map now shows Singapore Seletar only, and Subang to Seletar is still in the zone table, so Firefly still flies to Singapore, just not from KLIA to Changi. The fee page still prints departure charges from Changi, which is not evidence the route is back. What the suspension means for an existing booking is in the Subang and KLIA split explained.
The fare brands, and the baggage each one includes
Firefly’s fee table and add-ons page name three fare brands: Saver, Basic and Flex. Its help centre differs. An Enrich example dated February 2026 has a passenger who chose to “upgrade to Plus”, a brand name that appears nowhere on the fare or fee pages. Use the names on the booking screen.
What each brand gets, from Firefly’s own pages:
| Saver | Basic | Flex | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Checked baggage | 10kg | 10kg | 10kg |
| Cabin baggage | 7kg, 56 x 36 x 23cm | 7kg, 56 x 36 x 23cm | 7kg, 56 x 36 x 23cm |
| Date or time change, per passenger, per flight | MYR 100 domestic, MYR 150 international | MYR 100 domestic, MYR 150 international | Not listed |
| FlySmarter Bundle (Preferred seat plus 5kg) | Can be bought | Can be bought | Not sold |
| Pre-booked hot meals | Can be bought | Can be bought | Can be bought |
The baggage rows match because Firefly publishes one allowance: “Free 10kg checked baggage for all”, and “Each traveller will receive 10kg checked baggage for their journey at no charge.” Its pages give Basic and Flex no larger bag. If the booking screen offers one, that screen is the only place it is written down.
Saver and Basic charge the same to change. Firefly’s fee table charges both MYR 100 to change a domestic flight and MYR 150 an international one, and prints no figure for Flex. The fees are shown before 6% SST. Cancelling costs MYR 150 domestic or MYR 200 international, but the notes add: “Flight cancellation is only permitted for Medical Condition/illness or Death reason.” A change of plans is not a reason Firefly accepts.
Firefly’s Krabi release lists “flexible flight changes” among its complimentary benefits. The fee table charges for them on Saver and Basic. Trust the fee table.
What extra baggage costs
Extra checked weight comes in 5kg steps from 5kg to 30kg, to a ceiling of 40kg a passenger, priced on the booking screen rather than in a published table. Firefly says any weight you buy and do not use is forfeited.
At the counter the price is published: MYR 40 a kilogram on a domestic flight and MYR 70 on an international one. A 15kg suitcase on a domestic flight is 5kg over, which is MYR 200 at the counter before SST, or MYR 212 with it. Compare that with the booking screen’s price for a 5kg block before you fly.
The cabin rule: “One free hand-carry baggage of 7kg is allowed.” Firefly’s notes treat any extra hand baggage as a piece to be checked at the gate for a fee, which the table puts at between MYR 47.17 and MYR 250 a piece depending on aircraft and route. Firefly’s pages do not say whether a handbag or laptop bag counts inside the 7kg, so assume it does.
Enrich on Firefly
Firefly flights earn Enrich Points on what you spend rather than on distance, and Elite Points by distance zone. How Firefly sectors count toward Enrich status is worked through separately.
Firefly gives two answers on whether Saver earns points. Its terms and conditions say that from 1 July 2022 members earn “only on Basic and Flex”, and a 2024 help article says Saver tickets “will not be eligible to earn Points”. The current Enrich page and a February 2026 help article include Saver. If the points matter to you, Basic earns under every version Firefly has published.
Firefly against a low-cost carrier
On Firefly the cheapest fare includes a 10kg checked bag on every brand, 7kg in the cabin, and complimentary refreshments on every flight, which Firefly lists as “Famous Amos cookies, salted peanuts, and a 250ml bottle of mineral water”. Hot meals are extra and only on jet flights of more than 75 minutes. The turboprops carry no buy-on-board service, onboard purchases are cash in Ringgit only, and outside food is not permitted.
Compare totals, not fares. If the low-cost ticket you are pricing includes no checked bag, add the bag’s price first. If you are travelling with only a cabin bag, the 10kg allowance is worth nothing to you and the low-cost fare may simply be cheaper. Firefly’s cabin box of 56 x 36 x 23cm adds up to 115cm; the way Asia’s budget airlines count cabin weight differs mostly in whether the personal item sits inside the limit.
Before you book
Firefly’s fee table lists a MYR 20 booking fee that is “waived if bought via www.fireflyz.com.my”, and the FlySmarter Bundle and pre-booked meals are sold in the same booking flow. Firefly’s own booking page prices the fare for your date. Check the origin code there: Subang and Kuala Lumpur (KLIA) are separate entries in the same list.
If you fly from KLIA between 2 and 4 October 2026, Firefly warns of traffic around the airport during the Formula 1 race at Sepang and asks passengers to arrive three hours before an international flight and two before a domestic one. Its check-in counters close 60 minutes before departure.
