Oman runs its visa system through a single government portal, and the Royal Oman Police publish a specific order of operations for using it: register, log in, then apply. The site is built to enforce that order rather than just suggest it.
You register before you can apply
The portal states plainly that “you must first register as an eVisa user to access this function,” and separately, that “you must first login to the eVisa system to start the Visa Application process.” Those are two distinct gates. Registration gets you an account. Logging in is what unlocks the application itself. Arrive expecting to fill out a form on your first visit to the site and you will instead be asked to create one.
If your visa route needs a sponsor, only an Oman resident can register as one
Some entries into the system work through a sponsor, someone inside Oman standing behind the application. The portal is specific about who can take that role: “sponsor registration is only available to residents of the Sultanate of Oman.” A sponsor applying as an individual must supply “a valid Civil Number,” and a sponsor registering on behalf of an organisation must supply “a valid Company Register Number (if applicable).” If nobody in your circle is an Oman resident who can register as your sponsor, that route is closed to you, whatever else your visa type requires.
Checking your application after you’ve submitted it
The portal’s answer to “did it go through” is a specific path, not a general status page: “to view your Visa Application Status, please login and proceed to the ‘Find Visa Application’ link.” You have to be logged in first. There is no separate lookup by reference number alone described here.
There is a phone line, and set hours for it
The eVisa call centre runs “07:00-21:00 (+4 GMT)” daily, and the portal publishes two numbers for it: “Inside Sultanate of Oman on the toll free number: 80080011” and “Outside of Sultanate of Oman: +968 22848200”. The second is the one that matters if you are reading this from the United States, since a toll-free Omani line will not connect from abroad. There is also an email address on the same page, Info-omanevisa@rop.gov.om.
What the portal doesn’t tell us about cost or timing
Here is the honest gap. Everything above describes how to move through the portal: register, log in, sponsor if applicable, check status, call if stuck. None of it says what a visa actually costs, how long a decision takes, how long an approved visa is valid for once issued, or which nationalities can apply for which category. Those are the numbers most people actually want before they start an application, and this page’s own verified text does not contain them. Check the current fee and processing time on the portal itself, at the point you’re actually applying, rather than assuming either has stayed the same since this was checked.
What we can tell you with confidence: don’t try to apply before you’ve registered, don’t count on a sponsor unless you have a resident of Oman willing to be one, and if the process stalls between 07:00 and 21:00 GMT+4, there’s a real phone number to call, not just a contact form.
