Japan Visit Japan Web

How Visit Japan Web works, what the 2D code does at immigration, and what to complete before you fly.

Checked and fact-checked

Visit Japan Web is the Japanese government’s online service for arrival procedures. It handles immigration and customs, and it also covers the tax-free shopping service.

Register the information needed for immigration in advance, then present the 2D code it generates when you reach the immigration desk.

Bring a phone, not just a laptop

You can complete the registration on a computer. You cannot present it on one.

The 2D code has to be shown at the immigration counter, so you need a smartphone or tablet with you when you land, even if every other part of the process happened at a desk at home.

One code, two checks

Immigration clearance and the customs declaration now use a single unified 2D code rather than separate ones.

It is not only for visitors

The service is open to people arriving from overseas and to Japanese residents returning home. Foreign visitors can also use it for tax-free purchases during their stay.

Use the official site

Reach Visit Japan Web through the Digital Agency address linked below. The government has previously flagged unofficial lookalike apps, so it is worth arriving at the service from the official link rather than an app store search.
